Oklahoma City Thunder
Shai was born in Toronto, Ontario. The Canadian youth found basketball early with the help of his father and coach. By his sophomore year in high school, he found himself in need of stiffer competition. He transferred to Hamilton Heights Christian Academy in Tennessee. Shai blossomed into an ESPN four star recruit. He committed to the University of Kentucky at the start of his senior year.
With only one year of college basketball under his belt, Shai declared for the 2018 NBA draft. He'd had a solid year at Kentucky. He worked his way into the starting lineup by midseason. He end his college career with a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the NCAA tournament. But Shai had his eyes on the NBA. The NBA had their eyes on him. He went in the first round to the Charlotte Hornets who traded him to the Clippers on draft night. He's become a centerpiece for the Clippers. As he did at Kentucky, Shai is quietly carving his place on a talented young team.
A quiet, poised player, Shai's style follows suit. He prefers comfort to flash. He'll wear a vintage tee, a Vetements tee and a printed 'The Nutty Professor' shirt all in the same week. His looks are often straightforward and casual and are always crisp. Expect big things from the young star as his game and closet develops in the pros.
His cousin is Virginia Tech player Nickeil Alexander-Walker
Shai originally committed to Florida but later went all in for Kentucky.
He won silver competing for Canada’s junior team in the 2016 FIBA Americas Under-18 Championship
