New York Knicks
When your Godfather is basketball legend Steve Nash, it’s hard not to grow up with a ball in your hand. Hitting the highly competitive AAU circuit in his hometown of Toronto, and was recognized as one of the top players in the country at age 12. Aware that his early talent must be fostered and matured in the right setting, Barrett decided to play his high school years at a prep school in Montverde, Florida. His high school games were covered nationally and soon RJ’s reputation as a complete and competitive player stuck. He was selected as the National Gatorade Player of the Year for 2017-2018 and the consensus No.1 recruit in the nation.
With a stack of scholarship offers to choose from, Barrett chose yet another famed basketball program, stating that Duke felt like “home”. While he was only a Blue Devil for one season, he made quite an impact on the program and NCAA. He was the only player to start every game during the 2018-2019 season and was the first ACC freshman ever to score 800 points. Alongside fellow freshman standout, Zion Williamson, the pair crushed conference records, including the highest scoring percentages for the season. Both earned consensus first team All-American honors and were the first freshman teammate duo to accomplish so in NCAA history. Declaring for the NBA Draft after Duke’s loss in the NCAA tournament, Barrett looked to be walking into a top five selection status as he was named the USA Today National Player of the Year. It was in fact the number three overall pick by the New York Knicks that made Barrett officially a professional basketball player in the NBA.
A baby pink suit that popped against a stark black button down is how RJ Barret made his professional style debut, as the New York Knicks selected him third overall in the 2019 draft. A bold style statement to show that the “Maple Mamba’s” fits go well beyond a Canadien tuxedo. RJ has continued that grown fit trend in his career with a variety of custom classic suits that tend to always give a personal touch that reveals a bit about RJ’s personality. He states that he’s most confident in a clean suit.
