San Antonio Spurs
A hoop outside his grandfather’s house on Thursday Island is what put a basketball in the hands of Patrick Sammy Mills at a young age. In his native Canberra, the capital of Australia, organized basketball started at just age four for Mills, through an organization his parents founded for Indigenous Australians. As his skills progressed, Mills climbed the ranks of the best players in Australia. In 2006, he was named the Junior Male Player of the year.
Mills got his first taste of basketball in America with a scholarship at Saint Mary’s College in San Francisco. An outstanding freshman season at St. Mary’s, where the program hit a top 25 ranking, the first time in 20 years for the program. His early success helped Mills land a spot on the Australian national team. Mills represented his country in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, averaging 14.2 points in the games. Mills then returned to the United States, playing one more collegiate season before declaring for the 2009 NBA Draft. A second round pick to the Portland Trailblazers, Patty became a journeyman between the development league and majors for his first three seasons. Mills’ head coach of the Australian National team found his NBA home in San Antonio, and shortly, Mills followed, signing with the Spurs in 2012. Sharp shooting, especially the three, secured his future with the Spurs and in 2014, became a NBA Champion. A four-year, $50 million contract in 2017 has kept Patty in San Antonio, where he continues to break three-point records.
Styling like a rockstar, Patty Mills’ style is unique to his personality. Styling in whatever speaks most to him, the combinations he pulls are constantly showstoppers. Plaid pants paired with bold blazers and silk scarves are the type of fits that frequent the tunnel Patty struts down. He’s also very keen on incorporating accessories into his styles. His hat game plays a big role in his fashion.
