Roaming Redding California as one of six children, Megan Rapinoe found her passion on the soccer field at a young age. A natural standout, Megan was an All-American both her junior and senior year of high school. Alongside her twin sister, Rachael, Megan played collegiately for the University of Portland. An undefeated season and National Championship defined her freshman year with the Pilots. Despite her return as one of the nation’s leading scorers, Rapinoe unfortunately battled two ACL tears in both the 2007 and 2008 season. Megan again exercised her dominance in her final season with Portland and was named the conference player of the year.
Foregoing her final year of eligibility in lieu of the Women’s Professional Soccer draft, Megan was selected second overall for the WPS’s inaugural season. Remaining with the Chicago Red Stars for two seasons, she was forced to sign with the Philadelphia Independence due to the Red Stars folding as an organization. The WPS folded their operations in 2012, bringing Megan’s talent overseas for various international clubs. She joined the Seattle Reign, a member of the National Women’s Soccer League, in 2013 and is where she still remains today. She competed in the 2012 Olympic games in London, where Rapinoe and Team USA clinched the gold medal. She’s competed in three FIFA Women’s World Cups, with two championships in 2015 and 2019. She was the recipient of the 2019 World Cup’s Golden Ball award for the best player of the tournament.
The outspoken soccer star stated that she has a passion for fashion, and “with the exception of my mouth, it’s been the chief way that I express myself”. They say the best accessory is a supportive partner, and her and Sue Bird slay both personally and in the fashion game. Their looks are often reflective of their respective personalities, but complimentary at the same time. Her sneaker game is extremely strong and is typically the focus of her fits. A go-to look for Megan: boyfriend fit jeans, a statement shirt, complementary overlayer and of course, the flyest sneaks on the block.
