A perfect 42-0 defined the early football years for quarterback Kyler Murray. Three consecutive State Championships in Texas is no easy feat, so naturally, Murray gained national attention. That recognition came in the form of the Gatorade National Football Player of the year in 2014 and the rating of the best dual-threat recruit in the nation. As one of the best baseball recruits in the nation as well, it was always a question of which sport Murray would choose long-term.
While he committed to and played his freshman year at Texas A&M, Kyler felt that being an Aggie just wasn’t the right fit. Announcing his intentions to leave the program, Murray found his new football home at the University of Oklahoma. Kyler learned how to be a Sooner behind fellow future No.1 draft pick, Baker Mayfield. His sole season as a starter he threw for over 4,000 yards, had 40 touchdowns and took home a little hardwear, aka the Heisman Trophy. While his football resume was stacked, it was still a question whether it would be NFL or MLB for Murray as he was drafted ninth overall by the Oakland A’s in the MLB draft. Ultimately it was the gridiron for Murray, and he followed in Baker’s footsteps as the 2019 first overall pick in the NFL.
Kyler’s baby pink pinstripe draft suit was a perfect representation of the soulful styles that the young quarterback sports. He keeps it youthful with a wide variety of sneakers that typically color coordinated in some manner. Look for this quarterback to continue throwing deep styles in the league.
Kyler’s draft selections in the first round of the NFL and MLB drafts make him the first player to ever accomplish such a feat.
It runs in the family! Kyler’s dad, Kevin Murray, was also a quarterback for Texas A&M
In Middle school, Kyler re-laced his Nike Air Force 1’s each morning to reflect the outfit he was wearing
