From walk-on player to Heisman finalist and winner, Baker Mayfield always makes a splash. Growing up in Austin, Texas, Mayfield was the starting quarterback his last two seasons at Lake Travis High school, with a 25-2 record and a State Championship. Turning down scholarship offers, Baker Mayfield decided to walk-on for Texas Tech; but was soon named the starting quarterback. Despite breaking records from his first game with the Red Raiders and a monumental season, a scholarship with Texas Tech was still in question, so Baker decided to leave the program. A Sooners fan growing up, Baker decided to enroll at the University of Oklahoma and again, walk-on to the football program. Again earning the starting position during the 2015 season, he led them to the college football semi-finals while also finishing fourth in Heisman voting. Baker’s final two seasons with the Sooners were just as thrilling as the first. He was a Heisman finalist in the 2017 season, and the unanimous winner in 2018.
Baker Mayfield was the first overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft to the struggling Cleveland Browns. Baker’s first game in the league snapped the Browns’ 17 game losing streak, with a tie against rival Pittsburgh Steelers. They would finish the season 7-8-1, the best record for the franchise since 2007. Since his rookie season, Baker has continued to progress and has received impressive praise for his growth and maturity that he’s possessed during his short time in the league. In the 2020 season, Baker and Browns had their first playoff victory since 1994.
Baker Mayfield is a Converse man at his core, but now as his playing career and style has evolved, he’s expanding his collection beyond those clean, white sneaks. High-top Air Force 1’s were one of his first pair of Nike’s that he loved. When it comes to his fashion, Baker’s style is classic, sophisticated for a quarterback leading a growing team. There’s a vintage edge to that classic style, which keeps his Tunnel looks always the talk of the town.
