Rookie Style Files with Tre Jones

Rookie Style Files with Tre Jones

Taking a stylish glimpse into the journey of soon to be NBA rookie, Tre Jones, is like peering into the process of dreams coming to life. There’s a warmth that Tre brings to the room as he talks about this next stage in his career, one that communicates a level of self-assurance that can’t be emulated. “I just want to be known for being myself. I’m a family oriented guy, so, being around my family a lot and them meaning the most to me is really important. But also, always being real and humble.” That humble aspect is something that Tre doesn’t need to verbalize, it’s apparent even from a brief encounter with the Apple Valley, Minnesota native.

The former Duke guard describes his current fashion style as “comfortable, relaxed and clean.” While he’s no stranger to the spotlight on the court, he’s about to embark on a whole new level of stylish opportunities that life in the pros can offer, while helping to tell his story as an individual.

As Tre stated, family is the base of his foundation and basketball is for sure a pillar for the Jones family. His oldest brother Jadee is a performance coach in their home state and Tyus, has been in the NBA since 2015; so I inquired if Tyus had given him any advice when it comes to the emphasis of fashion in the league. With a small laugh, he tells me that his brother doesn’t always give pregame style his utmost attention but he’s advised him to be conscious of the increase of games he’ll have to be prepared for. It’s clear, fashion is already personal for Tre, telling me, “I’m going to put in a lot more effort with style, just because I’ve always wanted to get into that.”

They must know, then, that the above-named gentleman whenever he was at leisure (which was mostly all the year round) gave himself up to reading books of chivalry with such ardour and avidity that he almost entirely neglected the pursuit of his field-sports, and even the management of his property; and to such a pitch did his eagerness and infatuation go that he sold many an acre of tillageland to buy books of chivalry to read, and brought home as many of them as he could get.

He’s already making that effort and it’s clear he’s ready to Style Like A Pro, as he’s enlisted the help of stylists Kesha McLeod and Erika Nunez for his premier look as an NBA professional. Tre worked with the stylists to curate a draft night look that will stand out on the virtual draft stage, as well as tell the story of who Tre Jones, the NBA player will be. Kesha echoed what my intuition told me, that Tre gets “it,” ackloweleding the elevated composure the young 20-year-old already possesses. She states, “from doing this for so long and hand picking the guys that I work with, I’m not attracted to working with everyone, this doesn’t come easy. But working with Tre was just seamless, and I love a person that gets it and fits the mold.”

It’s quite the compliment coming from Kesha, whose client list boasts some of the biggest names in sports and entertainment. Tre gave Kesha and Erika various looks that he admired from guys in the league and beyond, but states that it was most important for him to communicate to them who he was as a person. “For myself, working with them so far, it’s really opened my eyes to how quickly they can hit it on the head for what I want with my style. Whatever I was thinking or was in my head for an outfit, I tried to tell them about it, but they made it come to life and it was just having them understand that they are really good at what they do.”

While we can’t reveal the official NBA Draft Night look quite yet, Kesha and Erika quickly captured the core of Tre, crafting a look that’s elevated and sure to be memorable.

Kesha’s relationships within the industry are second to none, and she already sees the off-the-court fashion opportunities for Tre. “There’s a lot of brands who have never done anything with NBA players, Tre could be the first and that’s what we want to set him up to be.”

Whether he’s conscious about it or not, there’s a permanent ‘Disney kid’ smile painted across his face as he talks about his process of diving into his off-the-court brand. “It’s been really fun for me, I’m very lucky to work with both of them. I had my first shoot the other day, and it was really everything I’ve ever imagined. We had a lot of fun, a lot of laughs and smiles, which I love to do, so I’m hoping to continue that over the years.”
